Celebrate the Harvest Show, Orange Ma. Ten Ten Ten (10-10-2010)

What a great day for a show. This show was about an hour north of the southern Mass border but for all you Southern CT guys you might consider it for next year. The car show was adjacent to a craft fair with live music so this show is friendly to the family.

John K. organized another caravan to the show hoking up with the Pioneer Valley GTO Association for a leisurely fall folliage cruise to the show. We all met at Hawleys Diner in Belchertown (the town so named I assume because the portions at Hawleys were huge). We had about 15 cars in the caravan I would say, three birds, mostly goats, a '69 Z/28, and a 442. The drive was through some rural areas that I had never seen before: New Salem, Pelham, Shutesbury, and of course Orange. They even had a parade today that many of the cars left to cruise in. For the car show I think there were somewhere between 300 and 400 cars. Class K was for the Firebirds and Camaros and sat adajacent to Class L with the Mustangs.





This '67 won best of show at Saratoga a couple of years ago.



Adam and Cathy brought their one of one '72 Formula. This was a special ordered factory color and the trim tags show blanks for colors.


Bandit Rich is local to this show and brought his Y88 (yes Y88 Gold Edition). Rich attended with his bretheren from the Mass Firebirds. During our stay the Mass Birds guys relayed a story of how Rich entered the car in the Special Interest category at this show one year and lost to a popcorn truck. The club awarded Rich with a bag of popcorn for second place. Rich took in good stride, in fact I think he was happy to get popcorn.



Since we were in the Camaro/Firebird class I added this show of a nice '70 Z/28. I thought Martin would like it now he he and Carolyn have been converted to the dark side of the force.


My car, probbaly out for the last time this season. It's time to install a new chicken.



John K led the caravan. We all had Coors in our trunk to make it more appropriate.


A nice 400. What does everyone think of a Camaro spiler on an early bird. I approve. I think it's a mod that was done commonly in the period.

This car has my favorite interior of the third gens.


You may not be seeing this car again. Owner Butch is looking for a second gen. If anyone hear's of one let him know.

I like the Firebirds and Trans Ams...nice stories too.

BTW, I do not like the Camaro spoiler on first generation Firebirds. It takes away from the smooth lines of the car and has absolutely no function for drag aerodynamics.

That was not commonly done in the 1960s and early 70s. It started appearing in the 1980s when these Firebirds were being restored.

I know Rick, my time will come. And I know if I ever break down that you guys will go out of your way to help me. I only poke fun to the good sports but I have to say that the way everyone kicked in to help during someone's breakdown impresses me greatly. I am proud to know each and every one of you.

When it does happen I will absolutely welcome a good busting for it!
