What is considered CORRECT?

Post by Steve on Sat Dec 24, 2011 12:34 pm

I came across some documents that got me thinking, what do we consider factory service replacements and warranty work. I have tons of documents that show how changes were made to cars after they left the factory. What is correct? Is the car with all the factory defects considered correct or is the the warrantied replacement?

I wrote up an article for my web site discussing the most relevant hood bird for 1976 Trans Ams. It seems that the factory had probelms with the original gold foil birds used on non-LE cars (On Carousel Red, Goldenrod Yellow, and Firethorn Red cars) and recommended the charcoal bird as a service replacement. The defect was published in November and the new vinyl gold bird was released in January. The service documents do not say what the factory did. Have a look at this artcle, which is not yet published to the general public.

After reading what is your opinion: Is a Firethorn Red Trans Am considered factory correct if it has gold decals on the fenders, spoiler and hood scoop and a service replacement charcoal bird on the hood?
