July 16 Panera Bread Cruise - Another Record Breaking CarCruise
Wow... what can I say!
This Saturday we held another Charter Oak Firebird Car Cruise at Panera Bread located at 2320 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT.
The day was warm, sunny and clear and by 5:00 PM we had the paved parking lot filled! The number of cars that showed up was overwhelming! The first 75 cars got a Goodie Bag filled with free items and a car coupon book with rebates and discounts.
By 6:15 PM the grass area near the turnpike was filled and the Cruise was at full capacity at 178 cars and we had to turn cars away. The cars that wanted to stay and wait in line waited until there was an available parking space.
Tony was tonights DJ, filling in for Brian. Sounds of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s filled the parking lot. Interesting to note that we had a mix of classic cars, muscle cars, new muscle cars, unusual cars, special cars and vintage cars and trucks.'
There were a large number of Firebirds, Formulas and Trans Ams...representing all four generations...both COF member cars as well as some new faces of Firebird owners as well.
On a side note, David G. brought a "Barn Find" to the Car Cruise with the hopes in having some interest for sale. David had found a unrestored red 1968 Pontiac Firebird coupe located in Northern California, complete with California plates! The car had a 400 motor and an automatic transmission. The car was on a flat bed trailer and immediately garnered much interest from the Pontiac guys. The car had completely original sheet metal with NO rust anywhere on the car. What a great project car to start with! The car was sold in the first 10 minutes!
There were two mega raffles at the cruise with many car care prizes...thanks to Brian and his wife for them...T-Shirts, car wax, Gift Certicates, free AAA membership, signed Pontiac Trans Am prints and a large amount of cash from the 50:50 raffle.
Definitely one of the largest and most generous Panera Cruises ever held.
Pictures to follow soon...
