Engine experts... Idle racing on my crossfire?

Post by Knightdriver on Sat May 28, 2011 6:11 pm

Hey Gang,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. I wasn't sure where tech questions needed
to be posted.

I am totally lost at this point with my car. It's an 1982 with the crossfire engine.
The car just recently starting running at extremely high idle and I can't get it down to
normal. It runs at 2000 minimum out of gear and about 1400 in gear. Shifting between
gears is really slamming the hell out of my tranny too.

The crossfire is all preset at the factory so you can'r adjust anything. I have checked
all vacuum lines and everything is hooked up properly.

Anyone have any clue as to what has caused the change in the idle speed? I am not sure
what else to look for and half the mechanics around here have never even seen a crossfire
motor before.

Gas is expensive enough without the engine racing full blast all the time.
Any thoughts or idea's are greatly appreciated. Show season coming up and
I don't want to take this thing out with it racing like it is.

Thanks Gang.

Thanks Martin,

I'll take a look at that.

Then only info on the link you posted mentioned those as well.

(I joined the board though). Smile

That particular post was for a car with low running idle but at this
point, It can't hurt to look at it. Hopefully it is a quick fix as the
problem just started out of no where.

It's bad enough I had to hit 6 parts stores yesterday just to find replacement
air cleaners. No one had them and they were un-available to order..... Really?
I finally was able to order a pair through Advanced Auto. Who knew finding something
that simple would be such a pain.
