I was thinking...

Post by Steve on Thu Feb 03, 2011 11:38 pm

have been a Firebird nut for the better part of my life now and I'm worried that I'm in a rut. So I am shopping for a new type of car to learn and love like I have the Firebird. After all, my wife thinks that having a bird on the hood is tacky. Maybe all the stripes and spoilers are a little over the top. What to you guys think about these ideas:

The MG Midget. I'd have to buy two, one for each foot and drive them like they were roller skates. I'm worried about the name, in this day and age would this car be referred to as the "MG Little Person." Someone gave me one once and then took it back...so I called him a Native American Giver.

The original 1980's Hyundai Excel. Now these must be collectable. However unlike the newer Hyundai's you can't just stick a Mercedes emblem on the hood and fool your friends.

How about Geo's? Remember Geo's? I never had one and I can't remember what they look like. When did that brand disappear, before or after Oldsmobile.

What was thta car from Hardcastle and McCormick? It was like a Coyote Ugly or something. How about that?

How about a Mustang II? Nobody collects those but they love to use the front ends. Maybe a Pinto's better, remember the ones that exploded when they were rear ended. I could give up para-sailing and bungee jumping because driving that would satisfy my need for adventure.

Will the Nissan Cube be a collecticble in the future? I like the idea that the engineers saved so much on having to not do a clay model..they just used a lawn mower box instead.

How about a Nova imported from Spain? Nova means "doesn't go" in Spanish so I could get a cool car and it would be rare too.

A Mazda Miatta would be cool. Tell me honestly though, are they really just for chicks? Cause I like 'em.

Volare...with the fine Corinthian leather interior and faux wood grain paneling.

Toyota Camry's? I don't think anyone is collecting those yet. I could blaze a trail.

Maybe I'll get a van and travel the country like the American Pickers and just collect whatever I see on the side of the road. Or I can start a Car Pawn or something and people can bring cars to me so taht I can give them half what their car is worth. Ideas, ideas, ideas.

You are a funny guy Steve.

I suggest you be different and start your collection with a Datsun B210, a Ford Fiesta, a Mazda 323, a Subaru Baja, a Geo Storm, a Suzuki Samurai, a Nissan NX2, a AMC Eagle, a Dodge Kahuna, a Pontiac Aztec and lastly a Yugo.

Nobody has seen these cars in years and no one remembers them either...lol

Mostly good ideas guys thanks. Except the Aztek. Larry, what were you thinking? BLEEEECHHHH!!!!!

I forgot about that '80's vintage LeMans, the Korean Lemans deal. They probably figured after that an Australian GTO would be good.

This is a Pontiac LeMans.

This is a Pontiac LeMans.

This is a Pontiac LeMans.

This is a Daewoo Cielo that some A**hole GM auto exec decided to put on a Pontiac LeMans badge from 1988- 1993.

This is what went wrong with General Motors.

So you see my point...GM wasted all those years building Pontiacs when they could have just imported some Korean thing and called it a day.

In all seriousness it looks like Pontiac had some real "out of the box" thinkers in the 1980's to 2000's. I wish they had all went back and gotten into the box and built some cool cars. For the record I will state that I am a big fan of third gen Firebirds...yes, even with the Corporate engines. If Firebirds had not existed I'd be a Camaro nut. There is nothing wrong with a Chevy 350.
