Thanks for the info Larry, I'm hoping to be able to make that event while I'm up there, I'll have to wait and see what are plans are.

The engine has been rebuilt, .040 over, XE262H Comp Cam, roller tip rockers, forged pistons, etc. The crank bearings decided to give out on Jan. 1, 2009. Happy New Year to me! Here are some pics of the build...

Rich,

The engine build pics looks great.

.040 over, XE262H Comp Cam, roller tip rockers, forged pistons

So you have built the engine for some more performance with some upgrades. It looks like you kept the stock D-port exhaust manifolds, put a new intake manifold, a new edelbrock carb feeding the motor.

I decided to do the same and remove my Rochester 4bbl carb and put an edelbrock 650 cfm performance carb (with electric choke) on my 400. These are very reliable carbs.

Larry

Actually Larry, I've removed the E-carb and put a rebuilt Q-jet on the car. Night and day response. The Q-jet is a great carb and I recommend it highly. The engine responds much better now. The Manifolds, as mentioned are D-port RAM Air III manifolds which flow just about as well as shorty headers so you get the power of a header and the ease of installation of a manifold. The intake was on the car when I bought it and the intake flows about as well as a stock iron intake so I've not changed it. My goal was to create an engine that gave me some nice power but was drivable for long distances.

Nice job Rich,

I need to rebuild my Q-jet too but I hate rebuild kits with lots of tiny screws, springs and spacers....lol. For now the edelbrock performer carb is reliable but I wonder what a rebuilt Q jet would do for me with long tube headers.

Where did you get the D-port RAM Air III manifolds? These are rare as hen's teeth?

The manifolds you can buy now from Ram Air Restorations are actually better than the stock ones. The reproductions are 2 1/2 diameter right out of the manifold where the stock are 2 1/4.

Nice to know. I bookmarked the Rare product line for RAM Air III reproduction exhaust manifolds.

Humm,
I won't be getting rid of any of my original Ram Air manifolds. Razz
They fit my car nicely.
